Somfy now offers an altogether innovative wireless wind sensor for folding-arm awnings. The Eolis 3D WireFree RTS measures the vibrations of the awning in all three dimensions and automatically gives the command to retract in case of wind alarm. The battery-operated sensing device can be quickly and easily affixed to the front profile without any optical impairment. It is also suitable for retrofitting.
Turnover is not just made with the sale of awnings. Interesting margins can most notably be attained with the fitting of a modern automation system. Somfy, the market leader, now offers an altogether innovative wind sensor for folding-arm awnings. The functionality of the sensing device is as simple as it is brilliant: The wind speed is not measured using a wind wheel beside the awning as would usually be the case. Instead, an electronic acceleration sensor measures the actual vibrations directly on the extended awning. The load values in real terms have been comprehensively measured in a wind tunnel, and the reliable operation of the sensor has been tested. If the wind vibrates the fabric and structure to an excessive degree, the sensing device automatically gives the command to retract.
The installation of the sensor is particularly simple and swift: It merely has to be mounted on an oscillating component. The bracket is to be secured to the outermost end of the front profile using two screws or the provided double-sided adhesive tape. Because the innovative electronic device measures the vibrations in all three dimensions, the alignment of the sensor has no bearing on its functioning. The laying of cables is rendered unnecessary because the battery-operated system works on the basis of tried and tested RTS wireless technologies. At the push of the program key, the Eolis 3D WireFree is calibrated for operation. The threshold value for the activation of the control command is preset by the manufacturer and can, if required, be readjusted without any difficulty. The sensor is activated when the programming is complete and the sensing device is connected to the magnets which are integrated into the bracket. The system is also particularly suitable for upgrading existing motorised awnings. If not already present, the installation of an external RTS receiver is possible.
The argument for the benefits to the owner is conclusive and convincing: The wind control system prevents damage to the valuable sun protection - a very worthwhile investment. The sensor is available in three colours; white, black and grey-white. As a result of this and also thanks to its small size, it integrates inconspicuously into the structure. The sensor generally cannot be seen at all from the front, resulting in an undisturbed visual appearance. The system does not require any maintenance, and all set values are retained after a battery change, which itself is as easy as can be.
In addition to wind protection, Somfy - with its solar-powered, wireless sun sensor Sunis WireFree RTS - offers a solution, whereby the awning automatically extends when the sun is shining. This prevents the terrace or balcony from heating up in the first place. In order to prevent frequent extension and retraction of the awning during sunny days with heavy winds, the Eolis 3D WireFree possesses an anti-yoyo function. After a wind alarm, the automatic sun protection function is disabled for up to one hour. This prevents undue annoyance to the home owner and extends the service life of the awning to a considerable extent.

Wind protection system with innovative technology: The Eolis 3D WireFree RTS
from Somfy measures the vibrations of the awning in three dimensions. In case
of a wind alarm, the battery-operated sensing device sends a command by radio
communication for the sun protection to be retracted. The small sensor can be
installed in such a way that it is hardly noticeable at all. The installation
is simple and swift. The system is wireless, maintenance-free and is also suitable
for retrofitting.
