Somfy now offers an altogether innovative, wireless wind sensor for folding-arm awnings. The Eolis 3D WireFree RTS measures the vibrations of the awning in all three dimensions. In case of a wind alarm, the sensing device automatically gives the command to retract. Affixed to the front profile, it fits unobtrusively into every ambiance thanks to its simple and timeless design.
Due to climate change and increased UV radiation, outdoor sun protection is part and parcel of each and every home. Folding-arm awnings enable the shading of large surfaces, as required. To protect against wind damage, the valuable equipment should be fitted with an automation system. Somfy, the control systems specialist, now offers an altogether innovative wireless wind sensor. The Eolis 3D WireFree RTS controls the sun protection depending on the wind conditions. An electronic acceleration sensor measures the actual vibrations of the extended awning in all three dimensions. If the wind vibrates the fabric and structure to an excessive degree, the sensing device automatically gives the command to retract.
The sensor is affixed to the front profile of the awning. Its small size and the choice between the colours white, black and grey-white ensure a harmonious integration into the structure. The sensing device cannot be seen from the front. As the system is battery-operated and the controls are executed via radio communication, no wiring is required. The visual appearance remains undisturbed. The system is reliable and does not require any maintenance. Even the operation of the sensor is as easy as can be: Individual threshold values can be set without any difficulty during installation. All set values are retained, even after a battery change.
The innovative wind sensor is suitable for new equipment as well as for upgrades from existing motorised folding-arm awnings. If not already present, the installation of an external RTS receiver is possible. The manufacturer offers a sensible addition to the wind sensor with its Sunis WireFree RTS solar-powered, wireless outdoor sun sensor: It automatically extends the awning when the sun is shining. The sensor can be freely placed where the light intensity can be best measured. The compact, aesthetically pleasing casing can be discreetly secured to the façade.
In order to prevent the combined sun and wind control system from frequently extending and retracting the sun protection during sunny days with heavy winds, the Eolis 3D WireFree possesses an anti-yoyo function. After a wind alarm, the automatic sun protection function is disabled for up to one hour. This prevents unnecessary extension and retraction of the awning and extends the service life of the equipment.
